The Clemencia González School: |
| o |
Mbya-Guaraní youth from Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil have the opportunity to come to
the Clemencia González School to learn about their traditional culture from the
community’s own certified Mbya-Guaraní instructors.
Aboriginal youth who attend the school also learn about ways to communicate their
knowledge of their culture and of the surrounding wildlife and forests to visitors to their
villages.
The school’s curriculum is designed to mitigate the further loss of traditional aboriginal
culture and allow the aboriginal community to participate in Iguazu Falls’ growing tourism
industry with greater dignity and equality. |

Canada’s Connection: |
| |
The Clemencia González School was built with support from the Rotary Club of Welland,
Ontario, as part of a 3-year joint project between Niagara College and the Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA).
A number of Canadian youth have also worked with the aboriginal community in Iguazu
Falls over the years as part of CIDA’s Youth Employment Stategy (YES).
